It’s rare to see Vampire Weekend play live these days. Or maybe it just feels that way because I’m always hoping to see the band soon. The first and only time I saw them perform was when I attended a Saturday Night Live recording where they were the musical guest. Although it was only a couple of songs, their renditions were magical in such a setting. Ezra Koenig’s voice sounded better than ever, the guitar riffs cut through just the way you want them too, and the rhythm section was holding it down. The sound in the room, as you would hope, was wonderful and they lived up to the occasion. After dropping their incredible record Only God Was Above Us last year, they are now back on a world tour with stops all over. You can catch them at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey, where they’re playing four nights in a row. —Henry McGrath
The tour continues through November 15, with stops along the East Coast, then in Las Vegas, and on to Mexico.
