Somphong Adulyasaraphan’s world is one of Surrealistic kingdoms, intricately detailed—a little bit Salvador Dalí, a little bit Hieronymus Bosch. His mythical flora and fauna dwell in forests, deserts, and oceans of vibrant, rainbow hues, a way of highlighting nature’s vivacity. Adulyasaraphan likens the destruction of nature to death, hence the startling images of skeletal figures in barren or browning landscapes. Lushness and serenity veer into the eerie and insidious. This slideshow presentation explores Adulyasaraphan’s practice in all its facets. —E.C.
