In need of uplift? Here it is. One of America’s great political families, a lineage devoted to public service, is presented in a seven-part PBS documentary of 2014 created by the incomparable Ken Burns. It’s buoyed, of course, by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, his ebullient charm, courage, and visionary reach. A man who called cocktails “little sippies,” and who also, from his wheelchair, saved the free world, FDR is pure inspiration—a reminder of all that a president can be. For lighter fare, Noël Coward’s Present Laughter, starring Kevin Klein as the self-involved star actor Garry Essendine, is also available on PBS and has been recommended to us as a fun escape. Indeed, the site’s offerings are many and varied. Take a look. —L.J.
