In a collaboration with Netflix, the Brooklyn museum presents a virtual exhibition—it features a painstaking reproduction of the museum’s most stunning gallery—that surely marks the next frontier in virtual viewing. Curated by Matthew Yobosky, senior curator of fashion and material culture, the show highlights the costuming for Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, a limited series, and the upcoming fourth season of The Crown. “Walking” among the dresses, which come through in astonishingly high quality, viewers may zoom into Princess Diana’s wedding dress, say, or a Pierre Cardin inspired A-line frock. They can circle for a 360 degree view, or watch bits of the scenes in which the garment is featured. As one wanders, familiar sounds—the revenant quiet of galleries, punctuated by soft footfalls and their echoes—bring this virtual show one step closer to reality.
