The Picasso Century

Pablo Picasso, Woman in an armchair (Femme dans un fauteuil), 1927.

June 10 – Aug 26, 2022
180 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne VIC 3006, Australia

Picasso’s groundbreaking portfolio has been globally celebrated, but rarely do museumgoers get to examine his work alongside the art of peers with whom he interacted. In this exhibition, pieces by Georges Braque, Salvador Dalí, Alberto Giacometti, Henri Matisse, and many others are placed among 80 Picassos. The show’s 13 thematic sections explore the artist’s many facets. Picasso is not simply a Cubist, a Surrealist, a Modernist; he is also placed in broader artistic and geographical contexts. —Thalia Bonas
