In 1965, when psychoanalysis was still new in America, the psychotherapist Everett L. Shostrom made a three-part series of training films called Three Approaches to Psychotherapy. While the camera runs, three male analysts, in three different films, each treat a recent divorcee named Gloria. In The Patient Gloria, Gina Moxley brings a feminist spin to the proceedings, along with interludes of interpretive dance. Re-enacting those training films, Gloria is now the star of the show, not a passive patient. A wow at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Patient Gloria has its U.S. premiere at St. Ann’s Warehouse. —Jensen Davis
