What do the singer Charli xcx, the actress Rosanna Arquette, and the Interview magazine editor Mel Ottenberg have in common? Probably not much, except that they’re all starring in this long-anticipated but very mysterious new film. Part of the intrigue lies with its director, Aidan Zamiri, who until now had only made music videos (though Interview claims he’s “made the music video essential again”). Also mysterious is its genre. A fictionalized story of a rising pop star confronting the challenges of fame, the film lets reality bleed in, with the cast appearing under their real names—including the protagonist, who is, and plays, Charli xcx. The whole thing, whatever it turns out to be, was conceived by the singer herself. —Jeanne Malle
