The playwrights Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen are known for pioneering the genre of documentary theater. They take firsthand interviews with real-life subjects—wrongfully convicted men and women (2000’s The Exonerated), Iraqi refugees (2009’s Aftermath), and coal miners (2020’s Coal Country)—and weave them into scripted dramas for the stage. The duo’s latest work—their first virtual play—confronts the coronavirus crisis. Drawing on interviews with New York’s medical workers, The Line brings audiences to the harrowing frontlines. Following its critically acclaimed Zoom run last summer, The Line is back on-demand and features the original cast, which includes the actors Alison Pill, Jamey Sheridan, and Santino Fontana. —C.J.F.
