Michael Caine recently told The Telegraph that he’s “sort of retired now.” This isn’t the first time the British actor has made such a claim. In fact, The Great Escaper pulled him out of retirement. If Caine decides that it’s his last film, well, what a lovely finish. Starring alongside Glenda Jackson, who died in June 2023, Caine plays Bernard Jordan, a real-life W.W. II veteran who made headlines in 2014, when he escaped his nursing home in Hove, England, crossed the English Channel, and attended the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in France. “I just loved the character of Bernie” says Caine. “I thought he was incredible, and it’s so beautifully written.” October 6 marks the U.K. premiere, with a U.S. release to follow. —Clara Molot
