Dinner and a movie on Valentine’s Day—what’s not to love? This year, Metrograph has you covered for one half of your evening. Beginning on February 14, the theater has programmed a quartet of films that mirror the different forms of love outlined in C. S. Lewis’s The Four Loves. The series is bookended by Casablanca, a classic drama that needs far less than a holiday to warrant re-watching, and Licorice Pizza, Paul Thomas Anderson’s coming-of-age film (nominated for three Academy Awards in 2022). The other two picks are not as well known. Suzhou River (2000) is a Chinese romance directed by Lou Ye, and Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy (2021) is an anthology work by Ryusuke Hamaguchi. Both are tearjerkers, both are exceptional, and both are emotionally right for Valentine’s Day. A well-crafted menu from Metrograph. —Jack Sullivan
On Valentine’s Day, Metrograph will also offer a four-course Prix Fixe menu in their Commissary restaurant
