“Much have I travell’d in the realms of gold, / And many goodly states and kingdoms seen; / Round many western islands have I been / Which bards in fealty to Apollo hold.” At 82, Jordi Savall, that inveterate explorer of far-off musical vistas, brings to mind the John Keats of “On First Looking Into Chapman’s Homer,” his mind stocked with wonders. In a case of coals to Newcastle—but in the best sense—Savall and his vibrant ensemble of period virtuosi visit London with a program of music from the age of Gloriana. —Matthew Gurewitsch
