The End of an Era

As an attendee of not one but two Era tour performances (the second involving a multi-leg red-eye flight to Stockholm), I can attest to the ambition of the show. There’s its marathon length (3.5 hours, no intermission). And the elaborately-designed sets (10 total, one for each of Swift’s musical “eras”). And an unending sequence of Houdini-level stunts (for example: Swift dives headfirst into a hole in the stage … then seconds later appears on the other end in a different costume). Complete with commentary from Gracie Abrams, Sabrina Carpenter, and Ed Sheeran, a new six-part docuseries now promises answers to how this spectacle was accomplished—and what the phenomenon was like for Swift herself. —Paulina Prosnitz
