“The Coming World” is major in both scale and subject matter. Occupying the entire Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, it contemplates mankind’s increasingly uncertain future on planet Earth, paying special attention to two dates: 2030, when oil resources are expected to tap out, and 2100, when human life could move to other star systems. Opening with a video installation on global warming by the artist John Akomfrah, the exhibition features historical and current works from over 50 Russian and international artists, all exploring the interplay of nature and civilization. —J.V.
