Cecil Beaton (1904–1980) was a Renaissance Man About Town. The areas in which the British phenom worked and triumphed include British fashion, portraiture, and war photography, painting, illustration, interior design, and stage and costume design for film and theater (his costumes for both Gigi and My Fair Lady won Oscars). Beaton was also, for decades, the court photographer to Queen Elizabeth II. The man knew everyone and went everywhere, meanwhile getting down his observations in a series of sharp and witty diaries. Oh to spend an evening with Sir Cecil! Well now you can. Richard Stirling stars in this one-man show, which he adapted from the diaries. —Laura Jacobs
