The 2000's Generation in Brazil

Streaming on Galleria Continua

In Brazil, the generation of artists that came to prominence in the early 21st century is known as Geração 2000. All were born in the 1970s and 80s, years that saw the country in economic collapse due to the fiscal policies of President Juscelino Kubitschek. As a result, these artists typically reflect on hardship, government mistakes, and modernity in the context of great national debt. This exhibition brings together the work of Jonathas De Andrade, Marcelo Cidade, and André Komatsu. Video interviews with De Andrade and Cidade are an added bonus. —E.C.
