Talking Heads Revival

“Alan’s best ever thing,” says Nicholas Hytner, former director of the National Theatre, referring to Talking Heads, the television monologues written by the beloved British playwright Alan Bennett. Hytner has been tasked by the BBC with reviving 10 of Bennett’s renowned monologues from 1988 and 1998. The series, which stars Jodie Comer, Kristin Scott Thomas, and 10 other performers, will see two new monologues from Bennett, for a total of 12 episodes. “They are darkly funny,” says Piers Wenger of the BBC. “They are not cozy. They are not sentimental. They are deep and poignant and probing.” —J.V.
