Big is bountiful, but the delicacy of small works is beguiling. Think of Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory—9 by 13 inches. Or Rembrandt’s self-portrait of 1630, a mere 12 by 15 centimeters in which the Dutch artist paints himself with lips pursed, a frown lining his forehead. In a show that takes smallness as its point of departure, small-scale works by 48 renowned artists—including Etel Adnan, Lois Dodd, Alex Katz, and Fairfield Porter—are on view. —Elena Clavarino
