Though they are separated by 5,983 miles, Paris and Hong Kong are not as far apart as you’d think. In the last century, while Paris made sure the world knew of its couture creations, Chinese artisans were making objects of rare refinement, using techniques developed over many centuries. This exhibition celebrates the deep training, invention, and respect required by these custom art forms. Working with Adrian Cheng, New World Development CEO and K11 founder, the distinguished French fashion editor Carine Roitfeld (at the helm of Vogue Paris for 10 years and editor of CR Fashion Book) curates her first global exhibition. It includes couturiers past and present—among them Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Valentino, Tom Ford, Iris Van Herpen, and Richard Quinn (plus pieces from Roitfeld’s private collection)—along with exquisite Chinese artifacts. —E.C.
