Sascha Wiederhold: Rediscovery of a Forgotten Artist

Sascha Wiederhold, Tänzer, 1926.

July 2, 2022 – Jan 8, 2023
Potsdamer Straße 50, 10785 Berlin, Germany

The German artist Sascha Wiederhold started painting in 1924, when he was 20 years old and part of the Berlin “Der Sturm” circle. He also worked commercially, designing stage sets, posters, and book covers. After work, at home, Wiederhold moved toward abstraction, painting Deco-ish patterns and surreal scapes in wild colors. When the Nazi regime took over, he went quiet, making a living as a bookseller. Wiederhold died in 1962 and fell into obscurity. Few of his works survive, but those that did are brought together in this fascinating retrospective. —Elena Clavarino
