“Sometimes I like when the gestures disappear—the brushstrokes, and gestures disappear,” Rita Ackermann told The Observer in 2013, speaking of her paintings, “and it’s more just a well-conducted chaos of stains.” Something is definitely happening in Ackermann’s art, where pale planes of drawn imagery are ignited, imploded, by color. This is the latest body of work from the Hungarian-born, New York-based abstract expressionist. —E.C.
