Populating her walls with Warhols, Picassos, Magrittes, Dalís, and more, the London native Paulina Karpidas has spent many decades amassing a collection of contemporary art. It all started when she married the Greek shipping magnate Constantine Karpidas, moved to Athens, Greece, and opened a waterfront gallery in Hydra. Now, from her new home in the U.S., she is sending a part of her trove back to the U.K. where a new exhibition and subsequent auction will take place at Sotheby’s London. Featuring 250 paintings, sculptures, and drawings, a portion of them comprising one of the greatest collections of Surrealist art, the show highlights the vision of a trailblazing collector. —Carolina de Armas
