Pandemonium

Nov 3, 2023 – Jan 13, 2024
21 Dean St, London W1D 3NE, United Kingdom

Seeing that the coronavirus is still hanging around, it might seem a bit too soon to relive the pandemic. But not when the topic is in the hands of Armando Iannucci, the Scottish satirist known for writing Veep, The Death of Stalin, and In The Loop. Pandemonium, Iannucci’s first stab at theater, moves through Boris Johnson’s bungled Covid response, Liz Truss’s 15 minutes of power, and the first year of Rishi Sunak’s tenure. (The show’s subtitle reads “Being A Scornful Account of the Activities of Mr Boris Johnson and ‘Others’ during the Pandemic and its Aftermath.”) “I wanted to write something funny,” Iannucci says, “laughter is a great release, and my aim is for the audience to have a good time and a good laugh.” Patrick Marber, who recently directed Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt, helms the production. —Jensen Davis
