Normal Exceptions: Contemporary Art in Mexico

Mar 27 – Aug 15, 2021
Blvd. Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra 303, Granada, 11520 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Pia Camil. Yoshua Okón. Wendy Cabrera Rubio. These names belong to young Mexican artists who are carving out a place for themselves within this dynamic locus. From Camil’s colorful textile art to Okón’s conceptual videos, the contemporary Mexican art scene is exploding with new talent. This landmark exhibition at Museo Jumex fills the galleries with 60 works created in the last two decades, all by artists with close ties to Mexico. Most works on display are drawn from the Colección Jumex, the private collection of Eugenio López Alonso (a Mexican businessman and avid art patron), and many have never before been shown publicly. A welcome spotlight on what is regarded as one of the greatest contemporary art collections in Latin America. —Sabina Vitale
