“How do you hold on to your uniqueness and still be in the flow of history?,” Nicole Eisenman wondered in a 2018 interview with Mousse Magazine. “It’s about collapsing time and seeing time for what it is, and history for what it is. It is a narrative, and the narrative is in the present tense because we are looking at it.” The Brooklyn-based artist and McArthur Fellow, whose work hasn’t been exhibited in New York City since 2015, has their first major solo exhibition at Hauser & Wirth New York, where they signed in 2019. “Untitled” catches up with what the painter, sculptor, sculptor of paintings, and painter of sculptures has been doing over the last few years. —Clara Molot
