The epic Bollywood film Mughal-e-Azam—three hours in which a prince falls for a court dancer, thus drawing the ire of his father—was released in 1960. It remained India’s highest-grossing film for the next 15 years. Decades later, in 2016, the film was adapted into India’s first Broadway-style musical. Equally successful, the musical earned raves that described it as “an audio-visual extravaganza that will be a joy to behold.” Mughal-e-Azam is now touring North America, with stops at 13 different cities. The musical is performed in Hindi with English subtitles displayed on LED screens. —Jensen Davis
