Last year brought us Peter Kuper’s marvelous graphic adventure Insectopolis: A Natural History (2025), a book that lets various insect species explain not just themselves but their intertwined histories with mankind. This year, at the American Museum of Natural History, Kuper—a renowned illustrator who is published in The New Yorker and MAD (he’s done SPY vs. SPY since 1997)—celebrates the 3,000-mile annual migration that monarch butterflies take from Canada to Mexico. You know monarchs. They’re the butterflies that feed on milkweed. They produce an exquisite opaline-green chrysalis. And they’re dressed in unmistakable colors of coral and carnelian, veined in velvety black. Kuper’s vivid images will wrap the walls of the second-floor corridor near the museum’s butterfly research collection, and are accompanied by videos. Come share in the miracle that is the monarch butterfly! —Laura Jacobs
