Kids and parents alike are crying over camp cancellations. But fear not. The Metropolitan Opera has launched a virtual summer program to engage youths around the globe—and give grown-ups a break. Each week, campers will take on a new opera, beginning with the familiar tale of Hansel and Gretel and ending with Mozart’s Così fan tutte. While teachers from the Met’s Live in School course will supply learning prompts, literary and theater instructors will ensure artistic inspiration. Activities include guided viewing of performances and hands-on projects, with opportunities at the end of each session to share work with the class. Not only is this camp free, it’s a crucible for the next generation of opera-goers. —C.J.F.
