In 2013, the Colombian artist Oscar Murillo started work on a project with Clara Dublanc, a political scientist. The project was far-reaching and international, an investigation into the minds of developing children. Murillo and Dublanc reached out to schools in Colombia, India, China, Lebanon, Kenya, and the U.S., and asked that raw canvases be fixed onto classroom desks. The students, 10 to 16 years old, were asked to draw freely on the canvas. Perhaps, the pair reflected, the drawings would provide insight into this psychologically complex age group. In 2020, Murillo brought the project to four schools in the Minato Ward in Tokyo. This exhibition displays the creations of those Japanese children, along with selections from their peers in other countries. —E.C.
