Laurie Anderson is an inventor who uses self-engineered gadgets (the tape-bow violin!) in her performance art, multimedia installations, and music. MASS MoCA celebrates its long relationship with Anderson in a survey that includes new installations and a virtual-reality experience designed by the artist and media creator Hsin-Chien Huang. Anderson may be known for her groundbreaking use of technology, but her work is vibrantly charismatic. —C.J.F.
