L.A. Dance Project

May 3–15, 2022
175 8th Ave, New York, NY 10011, USA

The L.A. Dance Project is a contemporary ballet company led by Benjamin Millepied, formerly the director of the Paris Opera Ballet, and before that a principal dancer at the New York City Ballet. (His wife is the actress Natalie Portman, whom he met while working on the 2010 film Black Swan.) The company comes to the Joyce with a program of choreography by women. One of them is that wayward spirit, Janie Taylor, an adored former ballerina of the New York City Ballet, who’s choreographed two works on the program: Night Bloom and Adagio in B Minor. A restaging of Bella Lewitzky’s Kinaesonata, from 1970, is another highlight. —Laura Jacobs
