In the last few years, K-pop has become one of South Korea’s most successful exports, bringing the country several billion dollars a year. Jason Kim’s musical KPOP explores the sometimes ugly machine that produces K-pop stars. A heavily revised adaptation of Kim’s Off Broadway show of the same name, this updated Broadway version focuses on a manager, Ruby, who is desperate to get three bands in front of American audiences. The show features a cast of almost entirely Asian performers. —Jensen Davis
