Nothing says spring like the Kentucky Derby, held annually on the first Saturday in May. It’s for three year olds only. It’s a mile and a quarter. It’s the first leg of the Triple Crown. Its traditional drink is the Mint Julep. And its record for speed is still held by the magestic chestnut Secretariat, who won the race in 1973—in 1:59.4 minutes. —L.J.
