The artist Jordan Nassar is a second generation American: his paternal grandfather left Palestine for America as a teenager. Nassar uses Palestinian craft techniques to reflect on poignant themes, his works often taking the form of panels that employ hand embroidery, wood inlay, and glass. Islamic geometries are combined with landscapes from back home. “As I delved further into the medium,” Nassar once explained, “I realized that in fact the pattern is really just ‘my paint.’” At James Cohan, six hand-embroidered multi-panel works and five glass sculptures present visions of identity and infinity. —Elena Clavarino
