“What is the scariest monster of all time?” asks the artist Jim Shaw. “Us humans.” Known as a leader of the 1960s “lowbrow art” movement, Shaw’s work reflects on commercialism, pop culture, and world events. Inspired by comic books, miniatures, pulp novels, and protest posters, he also draws from his own life. TWA advertisements, cartoons, Trump and Melania, and the Ninth Circle of Hell all appear in this exhibition, Shaw’s first at Gagosian’s gallery in London. —Jeanne Malle
