This year marks a quarter century since the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Since then, a generation has come of age bearing no memory of the event that fundamentally altered the national psyche and the course of U.S. foreign policy. With his new documentary, IX XI, Sean Wilsey hopes to “bring back the emotional immediacy of the day.” Weaving together the recollections of 12 unrelated New Yorkers, from a professional skateboarder to the actor Griffin Dunne, the film poignantly reminds us how the tragedy was a wound shared by people of all races, classes, and political persuasions. —Paulina Prosnitz
