Carolina Aguirre was born in Chile in 1990 and is based in Argentina. Her sculptures feel like the offspring of trees, dolmens, totems, and steles—filled with mysterious knowledge—and her paintings on wood panels are made with Sumi ink, shellac ink, and organic pigment. Aguirre is alive to nature and it is alive in her art. As Palmer Gallery describes this solo exhibition, “Her practice explores the intersections of body, land, memory and migration through the construction of mythopoetic landscapes.” Aguirre herself says of the mediums in her practice—painting, sculpture, film, and audio—“they’re all part of one journey, even if the ‘outputs’ or ‘traces’ take on different forms.” —Laura Jacobs
