Regardless of whether or not you were in New York City at the height of the pandemic, that spike in mortality is something most of us will never forget. And yet the coronavirus also brought out the hopeful side of New York. Ahead of its official reopening, the New-York Historical Society offers an outdoor exhibition that remembers the good and bad. The show takes place in the building’s rear courtyard and features photographs by Kay Hickman alongside audio interviews by the poet and journalist Kevin Powell, all dating to some of the city’s hardest-hit days in early April. —J.V.
