The world is now acquainted with both Hilma af Klint, born in 1862, and her art—colorful abstract paintings that boldly evoke the cosmos and its geometries. In 1906, in her attic, after communicating with spirits, af Klint began painting her monumental works, revolutionary in their scale, vibrancy of color, and level of abstraction. In the fall of 1907, she set to work on a series called “The Ten Largest,” which she completed over the course of 40 days. These paintings, among her most important, are now on view alongside a collection of her watercolors. —Elena Clavarino
