It’s hard to believe that Ina Garten, whose renown is based on good-natured cheer and comforting recipes, grew up in a cold household. “Dinners were more nutritious than delicious,” she recalled in her memoir. Since entering the kitchen herself, the culinary savant has created her own speciality cooking store, written 13 best-selling cookbooks, starred in a beloved television show, and inspired others to indulge in treats from brownie pudding to giant cosmopolitans. Now, the Barefoot Contessa is stepping away from the stove and sitting down to happy-hour cocktails on a new podcast that features conversations from her kitchen table. “It’s happening in real time, it’s not overedited, so it feels authentic in a way that nothing else does,” Garten told The New York Times. “I’m always in pursuit of that messiness of real life.” Guests such as the chef Alison Roman and the writer Ann Patchett are on the roster. And one thing’s for sure: husband Jeffrey is a mainstay. —Maggie Turner
