Everybody knows Hamlet’s story—the moody prince existentially musing in a court crawling with vipers. Most envision the embattled title character as a beautiful young man. Indeed, the distinguished actor Ian McKellen first played Hamlet 50 years ago to critical acclaim. Now, at age 82, he returns to the role in a production blind to age, color, and gender.
