Gagosian Premieres is a new digital platform that zeroes in on the gallery’s current exhibitions through artist interviews and in-person analysis of the shows. To get a sense of it, check out the October 20 episode on Gregory Crewdson’s Beverly Hills show “An Eclipse of Moths.” It begins with a conversation between Crewdson and the Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy, moderated by the writer Malcom Gladwell. After that, Elvis Mitchell, who curates LACMA’s film series, walks viewers through the exhibition, commenting on what he sees in Crewdson’s crystalline photographs of desolate urban areas. “I’m fascinated by how many of these pictures have subjects wearing no shoes,” says Mitchell, “so nobody’s going anywhere. You get that, where are you gonna go? You don’t have any shoes. What’s fascinating too is how healthy all the foliage looks, it looks verdant and green, but everything that’s man-made is in such a state of disrepair.” The segments are generally 15-minutes long, and a wonderful way to see the work without being there. Once the “premiere” is up online, it remains for future viewing. —L.J.
