What started over 15 years ago as a small, impromptu, improv, hip-hop musical—created by Hamilton’s Lin Manuel Miranda alongside Thomas Kail and Anthony Veneziale—is now hitting Broadway for a 12-week limited run. As the actor Alan Arkin said in a 2008 interview, “All of life is an improvisation, whether you like it or not.” The performers of Freestyle Love Supreme take cues from the audience, so no two nights of the show are the same. —J.V.
