Frank Walter lived as a recluse in Falmouth Harbour, creating multimedia works that channelled William Blake and Hilma af Klint yet vibrated with Caribbean energy. He was born in 1926, in Antigua, and possessed a lineage that included slaves of African descent and aristocratic European slave owners, a combination that haunted him his entire life. In this large-scale retrospective, 100 paintings and sculptures, paired with wondrous set designs, transport viewers back to Walters’s “castle on a hill” studio, where he painted Caribbean landscapes in heavenly hues, day in, day out. —Elena Clavarino
