The French art dealer Emmanuel Perrotin is partnering with the American musician and newly minted curator Pharrell Williams in a group exhibition called “Femmes” at the Perrotin art gallery in Paris. Featuring around 40 artists of African descent, from the painter Nina Chanel Abney to the sculptor and installation artist Kennedy Yanko, the show aims to honor and celebrate Black women. The range of mediums and movements is diverse. “Some of the best art emerges when people are oppressed,” Williams said, “It’s what we do as a species when something shakes us up.” —Carolina de Armas
