Lush, inventive, and mystical, Emma Webster’s landscape paintings resemble a storyboard for a fantasy world. In “Intermission,” Webster applies her fusion of virtual reality, sculptural modeling, and hand-drawing to create an immersive experience. Her oil paintings of deep forests and teeming swamps form the backdrops of the space, producing a theater-like effect. The visitors become performers, inhabiting the fantastical world evoked by the created natural surroundings. Beautifully rendered yet eerie, the exhibition asks visitors to pause in the nebulous area between the real and unreal. —Paulina Prosnitz
