In a world that is permeated with virtual imagery, the experimental Italian photographer Elisa Sighicelli urges viewers to focus on the tangible. She is interested in museum interiors, artworks, and antiquity, and she snaps photographs of minute details one would likely miss. She then prints her images on rare materials and textures—marble, for instance, sometimes mirror or satin—and transmutes her subject into something that is both illusory and concrete: a photograph of a marble sculpture that is then printed on marble becomes … marble. In Sighicelli’s first display in Asia, photographs from Villa Pignatelli in Naples, Palazzo Madama in Turin, and Rome are displayed in a range of media. —E.C.
