In the 15th century, the Florentine sculptor Donatello was called “the master of masters.” He sculpted a penitent Magdalene in wood, stoic saints in marble, and a lithe young David in bronze. For the first major Donatello exhibition in 40 years, the distinguished curator Francesco Caglioti displays work from the artist’s entire career in two separate venues, the Palazzo Strozzi and Museo Nazionale del Bargello. Donatello’s sculptures will be on view alongside works by his Renaissance contemporaries—Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Raphael, and Michelangelo. The bronze David is in attendance. —Jensen Davis
