Experimental filmmaker and animator Jodie Mack once asked, “Is cinema a type of animation? You could spend a whole lifetime on that question.” Her wondrous animations, in which she uses materials such as quilts, glass, and found objects to create mesmerizing rainbow palettes and special effects, have become world renowned. In “Curses” (2016), a short she made for her roommate’s pop band, Mack explores the nuances of music videos through a fragmented pas de deux. Mack’s arresting world is now available on Vimeo. —E.C.
