“I consider myself a citizen of the world,” the silent-film star Charlie Chaplin once said. This attitude—present in his films, which became increasingly political over a career of more than 50 years—was shared by Chaplin’s contemporaries in the art world, especially avant-garde artists such as Fernand Léger and Frantisek Kupka. Dada artists in particular looked to Chaplin as a muse. Featuring over 100 paintings, drawings, archives, and film scenes, “When Art Met Cinema” examines the interplay between Chaplin and the artists of his time. —J.V.
