Birders

“The border wall is no barrier to birds.” If you have 37 minutes to spare, head to Netflix for Birders, a short documentary that travels to the U.S.–Mexican border during fall migration. That’s when birds are leaving their northern nesting spots to head south for the winter. We accompany birdwatchers in both Texas and Mexico as they scan for raptors, warblers, shorebirds, and more. The world is webbed in the migratory flight paths of birds. These invisible paths, with their well-known stopover spots on shores, plains, and other key habitats, must be kept safe for the sake of species survival. Because what would the world be without birds? —L.J.
